Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players looking for different ways to have fun with the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while another details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
