The co-founders behind the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has claimed that parent company Unilever prevented the launch of an innovative Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, that co-founded the business with Jerry Greenfield, revealed how he plans to independently develop the controversial flavor as part of a personal series highlighting causes the company has been prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Between Creators and Parent Company

This latest development deepens the continuing tension among the internationally recognized ice cream maker with Unilever, the British consumer goods corporation that acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders maintain how Unilever and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company from "honouring its social mission".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming an Emblem for Support

Mr. Cohen revealed via social media how he is creating a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting consumer ideas for naming options and potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared in his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for permanent peace in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol for solidarity with the Palestinian people because of its coloration, that match those of the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Previous Social Engagement and Recent Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of its products in areas under Israeli control, leading to Unilever selling their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution in disputed territories.

The new dessert series will be developed under Ben's Best, the activist ice cream brand which originally created in 2016 for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts plus Upcoming Intentions

The founder revealed how he plans to create other ice cream flavors focusing on issues that the company was prevented from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

This development comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, following decades with the organization, mentioning worries regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised following corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

At that time, Mr. Cohen commented how “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to continue to work inside the company to fight for its independence ensuring that it can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles which it was founded on while upholding for decades," he explained to journalists.
