HBO's It Spinoff Debuts Episode Two Early on the Streaming Platform
Audiences are thrilled for the horror series the Derry series, already receiving positive feedback and incorporating themes from the broader King universe. Just one day after launch, the broadcaster declared that the second installment will arrive early, timed perfectly for the spookiest night.
Premiere Shift Information
Starting on Halloween night at 3 a.m. EST, episode two of the Derry prequel will launch on HBO's online platform, prior to its traditional TV airing. Future chapters of the eight-episode season will premiere on Sunday nights on the network and streaming service, leading up to the season finale on Sunday, December 14.
Show Background
Taking place within the Derry mythology, Welcome to Derry draws from King’s iconic novel while enlarging the setting brought to life by the It movie director in the two It films. The first It movie focused on young characters facing supernatural evils, thus it's suitable that the prequel continues that tradition. Yet, the first installment of the streaming show proves it aimed to escalate the fear, delivering more frightening moments than Muschietti’s films and creating a harsh vibe for what's to come.
Setting and Themes
Taking place in the 1960s, the series introduces a fresh cast of adults and children living in a seemingly idyllic town masking a dark secret. Derry follows a cruel, recurring cycle—defined by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a terrifying being reappears every 27 years. Although It: Welcome to Derry might appear like it skews too close to the films on the surface, what differentiates the HBO Max series is its dual perspective—unfolding through the perspectives of kids and grown-ups at the same time. Younger characters are especially susceptible to It's terror, but grown-ups aren’t spared facing their individual fears born from the town's ingrained prejudice and covert otherworldly powers.
It: Welcome to Derry debuts on the 31st of October at 3 a.m. EST.
