Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Leading Derogatory Chants About Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United only half a year following instigating insulting songs aimed at their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His seven-year spell at Elland Road was ended amicably this past summer.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead abusive songs about Chris Wilder during Leeds' success festivities this spring. Currently, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull the team he loves out of the relegation zone.

Past History Involving Bamford and the Manager

Both men had history before Leeds earned promotion to the top flight last season and United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Moving Forward

All seems has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The song about Wilder went viral in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder stated back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I said that to Pat.”
